Playing in Traffic

At Barrie’s Five Points, I set up my camera. The goal was to try, in bright sunshine, to get motion blur of traffic going in two directions at once. The most difficult part of making this image was waiting for all the right variables to be exactly where I needed them.

To get a slow shutter speed in bright sunlight, I needed to use a very dark ND (neutral density) filter. This prevented a large amount of light from even entering the lens, as if it were much darker outside.

For the record, I was set up on a small pedestrian island in the street – not actually dodging cars.

Photographed in Barrie, Ontario.
