Shimmering Darkness

Out on a photo walk near a large set of waterfalls, the sun was just rising above the trees and starting to illuminate the water and rocks around me. I quickly took notice of a small spider web nestled into a corner of rocks, just begging to be photographed.

The web itself wouldn’t have been anything special without the water droplets, which I added myself from a mist bottle I carry in my camera bag at all times. With a few sprays of water, the web came to life and reflected the morning sun and sky against the shadows where the sun hadn’t yet reached.

My spider web photographs often use refraction to see images inside of the droplets, but this photo uses reflection to make an impact.
