Mysterious Circles

Some snowflakes are beautiful, and some are peculiar. Look closely at this snowflake, and you’ll see two near-perfect circles in its center. These are naturally forming and likely due to inward crystal growth. Even the simple, small snowflakes seem magical.

I had no idea what to make of the circles at first, but then contacted an expert to enlighten me. Kenneth Librecht of snowcrystals.com gave me the advice above. He used some very technical terms I didn’t quite understand, but I believe it boils down to a natural phenomenon.

Photographed in Barrie, Ontario.
