Hunter’s Wings

I found this dragonfly on a recent trip to the Tiffin Centre here in the Barrie area. Tricky to get close to, as the dragon and damselflies would fly off before my 65mm macro lens would reach its focusing distance (10cm).

This photo was taken at 1:1 magnification and not horizontally cropped. Lit with a Canon 580EX II off-camera.

Its a difficult shot to take at this distance, because depth of field becomes increasingly shallow even at small apertures. Thankfully, the wings popped back into the same focus plane as the head, front arms and leaf for a nice crisp image.
