Field of Dreams

A clear spring night, with no moon in the sky. The stars were sparkling, with a dim glow from nearby towns. A 37-minute exposure shows how the stars dance in the sky, all circling around Polaris, the North Star.

I knew this spot. I had driven by it a number of times and wanted to use this tree as a foreground subject in a star trail photo. Having never tried it before, I set up under this tree with settings I hoped would work and started the exposure.

When the coyotes began to howl, I thought it would be safer to wait out the exposure from my car. When I returned to the camera, I knew I got the shot. First try.

This photo was taken in Innisfil, Ontario.
