Symbol of Change

Bright red maple leaves are often the final symbol that winter is approaching. These leaves were found in Grey County, Ontario, just above Hogg’s Falls. Fresh flowing water and maple leaves – you can’t get more Canadian.

Just like a painter adds a splash of colour, I positioned those leaves in the frame. My photographic intent can come in the way I compose a scene and the way I create a scene.

Without those leaves, this photo would be entirely missing a subject and a message. I grabbed them from the shore of the river and with a twig, carefully laid them over the moss-covered rock without falling in the water myself.

Photographed near Eugenia, Ontario.
