Sinister King

This Chironomid is a little damp – thanks to me spraying it with a mist bottle. It takes on a different persona, with antennae now looking like a crown, and the droplets in the foreground appearing as if to be some coveted treasure.

This insect was incredibly tiny and photographed near 4:1 magnification and cropped significantly. Likely a millimeter in length, proper hand-held focus was part patience, skill, and luck. And many blurry photos before this one.

Photographed in Barrie, Ontario.
