Busy Bee

This clearly “busy bee” was flying very quickly from flower to flower. A female leafcutter bee, in the Megachile family. Possibly M. rotundata or M. brevis.

This shot is done entirely by hand with no remote triggers. In other words, difficult. 🙂

I set out to photograph a bee in flight, and it took a while to grab the shot. Most of the time was spent learning the behaviour patterns of these bees: how quickly they jumped from flower to flower, how close the next flower they visited was, how long they stayed in one place, movement that told me they were about to fly, etc. The rest was luck – getting the shot in focus was mostly chance.
